Kick-off meeting of the project “Öreg-Túr rehabilitation - Phase II.

The kick-off meeting of the project “Öreg-Túr rehabilitation - Phase II.” was held on 17 July 2015 in the village of Nagyar (Szabolcs-Szatmár-Bereg county, East Hungary). The development of the Öreg-Túr’s  water system is supported with 895 thousand EUR by the EEA Grants programme. This is the second phase of a programme, which aims to improve the water balance and increase the water level of the 63 km long Öreg-Túr river. Among other activities, in this phase technical interventions will be implemented, such as the reconstruction of the existing infrastructure, new bottom weirs and regulation locks will be constructed and renewed, the river bed will be dredged, automatic water-level monitoring stations will be installed, and water quality meters will be installed. Besides these technical interventions the rehabilitation also includes the ecological assessment of the Öreg-Túr. According to the current plans the works will last until April 2016. The river Öreg-Túr and its drainage area in the Szatmár region covers an area with a population of 18 thousand people.
