Bilateral Cooperation Meeting in Szentendre, Hungary

[6-7 November 2014] A fruitful bilateral cooperation meeting was organized on 6-7 November 2014 in the REC premises, where County Governors in Sogn og Fjordane and Troms were discussing together with the REC EEA Grants team and DSB representatives possible bilateral cooperation activities.

The REC gave short presentations about the REC in general, and specifically about the EEA Grant’s HU04 programme. Each of the county representatives presented the work on climate adaptation and emergency preparedness in their respective counties. Furthermore, Haavard Stensvand shared their recent flood experiences in western Norway.

The second part of the discussion focused on possible ways the two counties from Norway could be involved in certain programme activities with special focus on the C2 component, capacity building on local level.

A small study visit was also organized for introducing the recently installed mobile flood protection system for downtown Szentendre. The mobile dam was presented, detail explained by the city engineer. The flood protection system was finalized in 2013, but just before the finalization it was tested by a record Danube flood coming early Summer that year. The mobile dam passed the tests over and over since 2013, protecting the town from increasing number of floods.

A cultural-historical trip to Esztergom was organized for the team on the second day of the meeting.
